Abstract

The Imaging techniques in the Cherenkov light observation from TeV gamma rays were found to work well as exibitted by the sucsess of the Whipple imaging telescope, the Cangaroo telescope, and quiet recently the HEGRA telescopes.
The research and development work for the Telescope Array project started at Akeno Observatory in Japan. And obserbations of TeV gamma-rays from Markarian 421 were achieved using Cherenkov imaging telescopes of the Telescope Array prototype detectors with 3m diameter. Each telescope is the alt-azimuth mount with 6m2 main dish. The main dish consists of 19 hexagonal shape segmented mirrors coated with anodized aluminum. The reflectivity of mirrors are about 90\% at the wave length of 400nm. A high resolution imaging camera of 256 channel photomultiplers was attached at the focal plane to measure detailed images of the Cherenkov light emitted from air shower's initiated by gamma rays.
Mrk421 is the nearest BL Lac type object, with the redshift z = 0.031. Mrk421 has been studied at various wavebands. The BL Lac objects are considered to be a kind of AGN, which have a jet oriented to the line of sight. Recently, Mkn501, Mkn421 and 1ES 2344$+$514 have been identified as TeV gamma-ray sources, and they are all BL Lac objects.
I will report results of the observations of TeV gamma-ray flares from Mrk421 using the Telescope Array prototype in this paper. The observations were carreid out from April to May, 1996 at Akeno in Japan. And I will also report the comparison between the experimantal data and the simulation.
